The Long of IT:
i was named after the sierra mountains that i grew up beside, raised by two struggling parents and a crowd of well-meaning folks from the halfway house my family helped tend. later, youthful mornings were often spent sitting on the floor with my dollar-store paint set committed to patting out ‘happy little trees’ with bob ross before running wild through west texas’ fields. my mother was an artist without work, her clay and charcoal eventually tucked away in pursuit of the money required to raise a family. you could say i had an artist’s upbringing and an artist’s heart – so logically i went to college aiming to become a psychiatrist. one biology class later, i determined med school would not be for me… so i floated lost, trying to determine how one might turn an appreciation for the human soul and mind into a living. and behold, advertising found me, a perfect meld of artistry and mental agility. however, i found myself struggling to find my place in its framework. account-side first, learning how to sell in ideas i wished i’d helped create, budgeting for photoshoots i wished i could help direct. and then strategy, developing the backbone for executions i would often never see. finally, i threw aside my self-doubt and set out to pursue this nagging ambition of mine – i rose to the fight and poured myself into my passions, spending hours a day on skillshare and youtube honing my skills. and now here we are: i’m a self-taught creative… who can also write one hell of a technical email. let’s work together!
